What is a statute of limitations?

A statute of limitations is the length of time a civil or criminal case can be brought to court. Basically, that means after something happens, you only have a certain number of days to file a complaint. In Tennessee, there are many different statutes of limitations for different types of cases. For example, if you’ve been in a car accident and want to file a personal injury claim, you have 1 year to do so. Here are some other common claims and their statute of limitations:

·     Breach of Contract: 6 years

·     Malpractice: 1 year

·     Workers Compensation: 1 year

·     Sexual Abuse: 1 year

Don’t wait until it’s too late to file a claim. If you have a case and have questions about the statute of limitations, give us a call at 865-428-6737.
